I was planning to run for the US Senate nomination to oppose Blunt this year, and was running commercials earlier in 2015 to do so when Jason Kander got in the race. I canât beat that whippersnapper without a lottery win. There are 12 Senate races he can run for by the time heâs my age.

Then I was going to run for Lieutenant Governor and was running commercials for that when Russ Carnahan declared. OMG! So Iâve decidedÂ to run for Congress against Lacy Clay. If I win a big lottery before filing closes, I will run for US Senate and chase Jason Kander back to the Secretary of State pre-k where he belongs.

My platform will have three main issues:

1. In 2012, after my Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor, I saw Congressman Clay in the Central West End and asked if he’d support or introduce legislation to prohibit exemption of farm animals from state animal cruelty statutes, which was a primary issue of my Lieutenant Governor platform.Â His response was, “What, and lose the support of my pork producers?!” or words to that effect. I didn’t know we had a lot of pork farms in District 1, but it certainly seems like we have a pig.

2. Stop animal abuse on factory farms by banning the exemption of farm animals from state animal cruelty statutes.

3. Banning the use of public monies to lure or steal sports teams or other ongoing business enterprises from another jurisdiction unless they’re about to go out of business.Â I’ve long advocated Â this (it was called the Bill Haas principle back in the days on the McGraw Millhaven show on KTRS) in my political campaigns dating back at least to my 2008 congressional race in the 2nd against Todd Akin.

I thought about running instead for St. Louis City Treasurer against Tishaura Jones on the platform of pulling all those damned new parking meters out of the ground. It’s all about money for her office not us or businesses. Ever try to work one of those meters on a freezing day with a wind chill? Donât. Maybe I’ll run against her next time. Someone should.
